That... would actually be a cool campaign into itself.
During the 1990's a number of animals were sent to Acme Labs' genetics division by an animal control officer for a crime they didn't commit.
These creatures promptly escaped from a maximum security cage to someplace inside the Acme Labs floor joists. Today, still wanted by the Scientists, they survive as creatures of opportunity.
