Learn them, live them, love them.
I would like to think that the majority are going to be adults, here, and will treat one another with a modicem of respect, however as the forum grows, we would, naturally, need rules. Mind you, I am not going to put a clamp on language, unless it gets so bad, that you can not seem to type an entry without resorting to a cluster F bomb. We are mature, thoughtful role-players, and I would think that we would develop the vocabulary to match. That being said, lemmie lay da rools on ya.
1. Don't be a dick. This means do not insult, berate, or belittle somebody, outside of roleplay, based on their preferences, roleplay style, political alliance, religious affiliation, gender, or race. This should be blatantly obvious, but sometimes, it isn't, really.
2. Do not metagame. If your character doesn't know it in the RP, then they don't know it in the RP. Period. Also, it goes back to rule one. Metagaming is a dick move, and any experienced RPer knows this.
3. Keep your RP feelings separate from your RL feelings. Can be difficult, sometimes, but the person behind the character is not the character, capice? Also, the views held by the character are not necessarily held by the person doing the character's RP, and that needs to be understood, too. Don't assume that any given person RP's a character that has their secret desires.
4. This shouldn't really have to be said, but it's being said, anyway. Try your very best not to make your character a Mary Sue.
5. With the change of forum, there has come a change in format. No longer are there individual forums for individual games, shows, comics, books, authors, etc. Instead there are genres, to make it easier on everybody, including your humble Administrator. Therefore it would be greatly appreciated if you would kindly place the name of the universe you are using in brackets in the title of your thread. Examples: [Star Wars]; [Lord of the Rings]; [Mass Effect]; [Original].
6. All roleplay within these forums is on a volunteer basis. If any member of the roleplay forum isn't a fan of a particular genre, or setting, they do not have to participate if they do not wish to. The rest of the participants should respect this decision, and keep in mind Rule Number 1.
